Simple maintenance tips to keep your refrigerator running efficiently for years.
Your refrigerator is one of the hardest-working appliances in your home. Here are 5 simple tips to keep it running efficiently for years to come.
1. Clean the Condenser Coils
Dust and dirt on the condenser coils make your refrigerator work harder. Clean them every 6 months with a vacuum or coil brush.
2. Check Door Seals
Loose door seals let cold air escape. Test by closing the door on a dollar bill — if it slides out easily, the seal needs replacing.
3. Keep It Full but Not Overcrowded
A full refrigerator retains cold better than an empty one, but don't overcrowd — air needs to circulate for even cooling.
4. Set the Right Temperature
The ideal temperature is 3-4°C for the refrigerator and -18°C for the freezer. Setting it colder wastes energy.
5. Defrost Regularly (if not Frost-Free)
If your refrigerator isn't frost-free, defrost it when frost builds up to 1/4 inch thick. Frost buildup reduces efficiency.
